Your vacation ownership is a lot more flexible than you realize, thanks to Interval International. This well-known timeshare exchange network gives you the freedom to use both week-based and points-based systems to enjoy a stay at any of their 3,200+ destinations worldwide. With properties in over 90 countries, you will find an Interval International-affiliated resort no matter where your travels take you. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything from how points and weeks exchanges work to membership tiers and the latest fee updates, ensuring you have all the details needed to maximize your ownership.

What is Interval International?

Let’s start with the basics. Vacation exchange is simply a way for timeshare owners to swap time at their home resort for a stay at a different resort. Instead of visiting the same destination each year, you have the flexibility to explore a variety of locations worldwide.

Interval International (II) is one of the largest vacation exchange companies in the world. As a subsidiary of Marriott Vacations Worldwide, it partners with major names in the vacation ownership industry, including Disney, Hyatt, Marriott, and Westin.

With an Interval International membership, you can use your timeshare to book stays at resorts in over 90 countries. You also have the flexibility to use your ownership for other travel deals, such as flights, tours, and cruises. Additionally, II provides options to book vacations with cash, allowing you to enjoy more holidays for less.

How Does Interval International Work?

Before you can exchange your timeshare with Interval International, you need to sign up. Unless your timeshare comes with a complimentary II membership, you’ll need to pay to sign up. There are three membership tiers:

  • Individual Membership: The standard entry-level option, offering fundamental exchange privileges across the network.
  • Interval Gold: An upgraded membership tier that provides greater flexibility and value. It includes all the benefits of the standard membership, plus additional perks. With ShortStay Exchange, you can trade your week for multiple shorter stays of one to six nights. Interval Options allows you to convert your points or weeks into credits for cruises, tours, and unique hotel experiences. You will also receive special discounts on Getaway vacations, which are week-long resort stays that can be booked with cash without using your timeshare week.
  • Interval Platinum: The highest tier, granting all Gold benefits plus priority access to select sales and up to three free Guest Certificates each year.

To maintain transparency and help you plan your vacations confidently, here are the current annual fees as of 2026:

  • Basic Individual Membership: $99
  • Interval Gold Upgrade: $64 (Total $163)
  • Interval Platinum Upgrade: $139 (Total $238)

Making an Exchange: Weeks vs Points

Once you are enrolled in Interval International, the exchange process depends on your home resort and ownership type. First, you must decide whether to make a “Request First” or “Deposit First” exchange.

  • Request First: Ideal for owners who want flexibility, this option allows you to keep your timeshare week or points until a suitable exchange is confirmed.
  • Exchange First: You bank your week or deposit your points with II, giving you up to 24 months to book a vacation. This is ideal for extending the life of unused timeshare weeks or points.

The subsequent steps in the exchange process depend on whether your timeshare ownership is week-based or points-based.

For week-based ownership, you can trade your timeshare week for an equivalent week at another resort. This is the most direct method. If you have a points-based ownership, you can also use this option by booking a reservation with your points and then exchanging that week.

Alternatively, owners with points-based timeshares can convert their points into Club Interval Points. This system works like a vacation currency, which can be used to book stays at various resorts within the network. Owners at select Collection resorts can also convert their weeks into Club Interval Points. For other week-based owners, the Club Interval Gold program allows them to convert their weeks into points as well.
