What Will You Do in Myrtle Beach?

beach view from resort

Myrtle Beach is an ideal place for a family getaway. The sand on its beaches is compact enough for bike riding while the surf is pleasant, relatively calm and clear.

Of course, the top attraction here is Myrtle Beach itself. The approximately 60 miles of coastline known as the Grand Strand is a wonderland for swimming and playing. In certain spots, you can enjoy deep-sea fishing or jet skiing, but other places are ideal for family play time.

For a quieter experience, head over to Huntington Beach State Park. This three-mile stretch of coastline boasts trails for hiking and biking as well as a nature center and picnic areas. Bird watchers love the salt marsh, and this also is where you can visit Atalaya Castle, a Moorish-style home that provides a fascinating look into the life of the industrialist Archer Milton Huntington.

Nearby is the Brookgreen Gardens, which was founded by the Huntington family. In addition to a sculpture garden, the complex includes the Lowcountry Zoo, an education center, numerous nature trails and more.

Broadway at the Beach and Hitting the Links

Most visitors make their way to Broadway at the Beach at least once during their stay in their Myrtle Beach timeshare. It's a vast outdoor entertainment complex that's filled with restaurants, stores and more. Be sure to ride the Ferris wheel and visit popular tourist attractions like the Hollywood Wax Museum Entertainment Center and Ripley's Aquarium.

Concerts and a variety of other live performances regularly are presented at the various theaters. There's even a comedy club and a piano bar. If you visit during the summer, you'll be treated to fireworks on at least a couple of nights each week.

The Mt. Atlanticus Miniature Golf Course is one of the best in a city that boasts more than its fair share of these entertainment venues. This is a particularly imaginative example, complete with a mountain and challenging obstacles like caves and waterfalls.

In all, there are 36 holes spread across two courses. Try for a hole-in-one at the 19th hole to win free rounds of mini-golf for life. At the top of the 75-foot mountain, you can catch an impressive view of the ocean.

Myrtle Beach golf course

From mini-golf to real golf, Myrtle Beach is a destination like no other. More than 80 courses are found in the surrounding region, and you'll discover that many of them were designed by some very recognizable names such as Greg Norman, Robert Trent Jones, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer.

The Dye Course at the Barefoot Resort & Golf property is probably the most challenging one in the area, but if you're more focused on views, you'll want to play the Norman Course, which features a handful of holes right on the Intracoastal Waterway.
